The Dr. Zinzins: 30 years of smiles and comfort for hospitalized children
For three decades now, the Dr. Zinzins have been roaming the halls of the University Hospital for Children Reine Fabiola in Brussels, bringing moments of pure happiness to our young patients.
Established in 1992, this troupe of professional clowns has flourished over time, now consisting of twelve dedicated members.
Their mission? To infuse joy and magic into the daily lives of hospitalized children, making two visits per week.
The story of the "Docteurs Zinzins" begins with Patrick Beckers and Renelde Liégeois, who were inspired by the initiative of Michael Christensen, an American clown with an extraordinary vision. He had the revolutionary idea of introducing clowns into hospitals to accompany young patients through play, distract and entertain them. This idea spread worldwide. The Dr. Zinzins also embraced this cause successfully, creating a unique chemistry between young patients, caregivers, and parents.
Over the years, our clowns have forged invaluable bonds with hospital staff, who appreciate the lightness and magic they bring to the hospital. Even in the most challenging moments, our clowns revive vitality and hope in young patients.
The "Docteurs Zinzins" have evolved in parallel with the Children's Hospital. The clown team has gradually expanded and strives to visit all hospital departments as often as possible, aiming to bring a smile to every face.
The story of the "Docteurs Zinzins" is a testament to commitment, optimism, and humanity. Their presence restores the carefree nature of childhood to our young patients while offering an infinite horizon of hope and possibilities. Thus, our sometimes whimsical "doctors" reveal profound wisdom by allowing everyone to connect with the present moment.
