Child and Adolescent Obesity
Our role
At the Clinique Poids Junior of the Children's Hospital (Huderf), we offer collaborative care for children and adolescents with overweight or obesity. This unit includes the Centre Pédiatrique Multidisciplinaire pour l'Obésité (CPMO). .
Our comprehensive approach aims to enhance the current and future quality of life for young patients with obesity by addressing all aspects of childhood obesity in a specialized and multidisciplinary manner.
Our specialities
The CPMO Poids Junior offers an outpatient care program for children and adolescents with overweight or obesity.
Our team of experts includes pediatricians, dietitians, psychologists, physiotherapists, and social workers. Each of these professionals is trained in the management of pediatric obesity and plays an essential role in the overall care of the young patients.
Starting from December 1, 2023, this care program is free of charge for the patient, except for the consultation with the contracted pediatrician. It is specifically aimed at children aged 2 to 17 whose Body Mass Index (BMI) reaches a specific threshold based on their age and gender.
This care program is designed for young individuals who have obesity with certain risk factors. A health assessment of the young person with obesity is conducted using the Edmonton Obesity Staging System for Pediatrics (EOSS-P) classification. This helps determine the severity of the consequences of obesity and guides the young person towards the most appropriate level of care.
Our approach focuses on the overall health of the young individual, aiming to:
- Develop and support the skills of young individuals and their families in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and sports.
- Foster self-esteem and a positive body image.
- Learn to understand and regulate emotions.
The number of contacts within the CPMO is flexible, with a maximum of 12 contact moments per year, including consultations with a physiotherapist, dietitian, physician, psychologist, and social worker.
A personalized approach and attentive care for the young patient and their family are at the heart of our support.
