Visceral and Thoracic Surgery (Pediatric)
Our role
Welcome to the Department of Visceral and Thoracic Surgery. We perform advanced surgical interventions aimed at treating a wide range of pathologies affecting the abdomen, thorax, abdominal wall, and inguinal region.
Our clinical service specializes particularly in the management of complex congenital malformations in newborns. We initiate these treatments from birth, providing essential support from the earliest moments of life.
Our specialities
We work closely with the Pediatric Oncology unit, allowing us to perform diagnostic biopsies, tumor excisions, and the placement of long-term central catheters. We also collaborate with the Hematology unit for the treatment of gallbladder and spleen pathologies.
Our team of surgeons has specific skills, particularly in single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) and the minimally invasive NUSS technique for correcting Pectus Excavatum.
Most of our procedures are performed using minimally invasive techniques, whether in the thorax, abdomen, or retroperitoneum. Even surgeries on newborns are conducted using these innovative techniques whenever possible. Depending on the complexity of the procedure, our patients may be admitted for traditional hospitalization or treated in a day clinic.
