A Multidisciplinary Approach to Managing Tuberous Sclerosis Complex at the Children's Hospital
May 15, 2024 World Tuberous Sclerosis Day
Specialized Care for Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC)
Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) is a rare genetic disorder that impacts vital organs such as the skin, eyes, brain, kidneys, and heart. Often diagnosed late, this condition can significantly affect a child’s health, psychomotor development, well-being, and social and behavioral skills.
Recognizing these challenges, the Children's Hospital has established a leading multidisciplinary consultation program. For years, this initiative has provided systematic and regular follow-up for children with TSC, involving physicians from a range of specialties. Our goal is to prevent complications and minimize their impact on the children's quality of life.
Personalized and Adapted Follow-up
In an effort to simplify the care process for families, our consultations are scheduled on a single day, typically once a year, although the frequency may vary based on the child’s age and specific needs. This strategy not only ensures ongoing monitoring but also allows our team to adapt treatments as the disease evolves and the child grows.
Our multidisciplinary team works in close collaboration with other medical specialists and paramedical teams at the Children's Hospital, as well as with general practitioners, pediatricians, and therapists (physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists). This extensive network enables us to offer comprehensive and integrated care, which includes support services, respite care, and connections to associations and PMS centers.
